Gunman opens fire at Canadian Parliament
Prime Minister Tony Abbott says an attack on the Canadian Parliament shows the threat of terrorism is "very real".
Security is being upgraded around Canberra, after a gunman opened fire at the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa.
He killed a soldier at a nearby war memorial - and was eventually shot dead by security.
Meantime, Australia's National Security Committee is meeting to discuss the Canadian parliament shooting.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says she has spoken to her Canadian counterparts about today's events.
However, she's playing down suggestions the security boost in Canberra is in direct response to what has happened in Ottawa.
